ISLAMABAD – Top military brass on Friday resolved to continue the fight against terrorism and ensure the country’s security in the face of internal and external challenges. The 137th Corps Commanders’ Conference was held at the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani.
“The conference was part of regular monthly meetings,” an ISPR statement said.
“The forum was given comprehensive briefings on internal and external security challenges Pakistan is facing. The participants dwelt at length on various professional matters and expressed their satisfaction over the state of operational preparedness of the army,” it said.
General Kayani expressed satisfaction over the conduct of stability operations in the Tribal Areas and praised the start of transition to civilian control in Shangla and Buner. He also praised the ongoing efforts by army formations in the reconstruction being carried out in flood-affected areas of the country.
A security official requesting anonymity said General Kayani also apprised the military commanders about his meeting with US Central Command Commander Gen James Mattis on Thursday, who visited Pakistan to consult with the military leadership.
