Syrian government forces supported by Russian airstrikes drove Islamic State fighters from Palmyra on Sunday.

According to reports by state media and an opposition monitoring group, this ended the group’s reign of terror over a town whose famed 2,000-year-old ruins once attracted tens of thousands of visitors

Syrian television quoted a military source saying the army and its militia allies took complete control of the city and were clearing mines and bombs laid by the militants.
