KARACHI – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) claims to be a party of the middle-class, but it will be spending Rs 150 million for the April 10 public meeting in Lahore. This is despite MQM chief Altaf Hussain claiming that the party is going through a “financial crisis.”
The public meeting in Lahore is being given immense importance: it will be the MQM’s first rally in the capital of Punjab at such a large scale. The MQM had attempted holding a public rally during the last tenure, when it was coalition partners with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)-led government and Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi was the chief minister of Punjab. However, they were denied permission back then.
