Sana briefs women MPAs on Women Protection Act

Provincial Minister for Law, Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that Punjab government cannot even think of creating any legislation against the teachings of Islam. He said that a letter has been sent to ulema asking them to send their recommendations regarding the Protection of Women Act.

Giving a briefing to a meeting of women members of Punjab Assembly, Rana Sanaullah said that it is the responsibility of the government to protect women against violence and Women Protection Act will be very helpful in this regard. He said that on the instruction of chief minister, a letter has been sent to ulema seeking their proposals and recommendations regarding the Women Protection Act. He said that in the letter, ulema and religious leaders have been asked to point out the clauses of the Act which are in contravention of Islamic teachings and also submit their recommendations. The women assembly members were also given a briefing on the Act. The assembly members said they would hold seminars and walks for promoting public awareness regarding the Women Protection Act. Provincial Ministers Zakia Shahnawaz and Hameeda Waheedud-Din along with other ministers and members of assembly were present on the occasion.
