Sindh Rangers on Tuesday detained Ahmed Saeed alias Bharam, activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), for 90 days after informing the anti-terrorism court (ATC) about his preventive detention for questioning.

The Rangers produced Bharam before the administrative judge of ATC amid tight security. The paramilitary force submitted papers to the court according to which they had credible information about the suspects’ involvement in target killing, kidnapping, extortion and offences that come within the ambit of Anti-Terrorism Act.

The Rangers showed Bharam’s arrest within the limits of Eidgah police station. The court directed the provincial authorities to form a joint investigation team within 15 days to probe the suspect.

Saeed Bharam was arrested in Dubai last week by Interpol and later moved to Karachi where he was handed over to the Rangers. Earlier on Monday, his mother approached the Sindh High Court and told it that her son was innocent. She submitted that her son was settled in Dubai for the past several years and prayed for his release.
