The second edition of Shaan-e-Pakistan, a Pakistan-India collaborative platform, was held in Lahore on Sunday. The three-day cultural event, from March 20 to 22, kicked off with a musical night, Ek Shaam Dosti Kay Naam, with artists from India and Pakistan, including Sounds of Kolachi, Coke studio sensations Mai Dhai and Asrar, Indian band Shivam and one of Bollywood’s most accomplished singers, Rekha Bhardwaj. The event was hosted by VJ Andy from India and Anoushey Ashraf from Pakistan.
The event saw some mismanagement, as the performance which was supposed to start at 6:30 PM was delayed by three and a half hours. Another thing that annoyed the audience was the segregation of the VIP and general seats.
Amna Masood, a teacher at LSE, told Pakistan Today that she paid 3000 rupees to attend the event adding that the ropes separating the general audience from VIPs were very disturbing.
“Are we animals that we have been cordoned off in such a way,” she asked. Criticisng the delay in performance, she said time is very precious, “It’s a failure!”.
Another attendee, Noor Yasin, liked the performance but was disappointed at the management.
Shan-e-Pakistan proved to be another feather in the cap of India-Pakistan cultural collaboration. The performances by all the artists from both sides of the border were very soulful, especially the performance of Rekha Bhardwaj, for whom we waited for 6 hours. The mismanagement of organisers was also evident in poor crowd control and a derogatory enclosure division.
The evening was attended by legendary Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman, Pakistani music sensations Atif Aslam, Ali Sethi, Fariha Pervaiz, Hadiqa Kiani, Nauman Javed, Mustafa Zahid, Shiraz Uppal, Amanat Ali, Nabeel Shaukat Ali, Junaid Khan and producer Saad Sultan.
Shaan-e-Pakistan’s Indian culinary chef Mujeeb-ur-Rehman celebrated singer Rekha Bhardvaj (Kabira, Namak, Tere Ishq Mein) and legendary Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman will be representing the Indian delegates at all three days of the event.
The three-day event will conclude on Tuesday 22nd March 2016 with a fashion show of 16 designers from across the fashion tiers of Pakistan, India and Bangladesh.
In an attempt to strengthen the bond between the two countries and create awareness of the subcontinent’s art and culture, Shaan-e-Pakistan is a platform for fashion and lifestyle talent from India and Pakistan. The initiative was taken by Huma Nassr of Braahtii.
The first edition of Shaan-e-Pakistan was launched in New Delhi in September 2015.
