National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has filed a reference against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdul Aleem Khan in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking action against him for submitting fake affidavits.

The reference stated that Aleem Khan had submitted fake affidavits to ECP after the by-elections alleging Sadiq of transferring votes from NA-122 constituency without seeking prior consent of voters.

The affidavits submitted by some voters revealed that they had cast their votes in favor of PTI in general elections 2013 but in October 2015 their votes have been transferred illegally from NA-122.

Citing the name of Adnan Saleem as voter of PTI, it is mentioned that his name was not registered in the electoral roll of 2013 how his vote has transferred in other constituency.

Ayaz Sadiq was declared successful in the general elections from NA-122 but his victory had been challenged by his rival candidate, PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

Later, the Election Tribunal (ET) admitted Khan’s stance and ordered re-polling in the constituency.

In by-election of NA-122 held on October 11, 2015, PTI nominated Aleem Khan as its candidate against Ayaz Sadiq. Aleem put up a strong fight but ultimately lost to Sadiq.

Aleem Khan then filed a writ petition in the ET alleging that Sardar Ayaz Sadiq succeeded through rigging. However his petition was thrown out by the tribunal.

The PTI leader then filed an 800-page petition in the ECP through his counsel Salman Raja saying that before the by-election, some 30,500 votes had been transferred or cancelled from the constituency, raising doubts about the transparency of Sadiq’s victory.

The ECP rejected the writ petition on the grounds that Aleem Khan had submitted fake affidavits to support his claim.
