Govt awarding scholarships to minority students: minister

Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that educational scholarships of Rs 200, 00,000 are being distributed among minority students during the current year.

He was addressing a ceremony of scholarships distribution among minority students in Rawalpindi/Islamabad.

He said minorities were playing an important role for the development of the country adding that Christian community has rendered unprecedented sacrifices in the creation of Pakistan. He said that Punjab government has taken various measures for the welfare of minorities in the province which include the introduction of 5 per cent quota in recruitments, setting up of minorities’ consultative council, redressal of complaints regarding registration in marriage act and other problems. The provincial minister stressed upon the students to utilise all their energies for getting education. He said that government has introduced educational scholarship for minorities’ students adding that it is the age of information technology, therefore, students should acquire IT education so they can play their role for the progress of the country.
