A writ petition was filed in the Lahore High Court against the Punjab inspector general prisons on Thursday against violation and irregularities in mandatory training courses for promotion of assistant superintendent jail to next grade – deputy superintendents jail.

The petition was filed by Pakpattan Assistant Superintendent Jail Muhammad Asad Tariq and others through advocate Chaudhry Shoaib Saleem which has been fixed for hearing today (Friday) before Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh.

The petitioner submitted that the IG prisons had selected and included only his favorite jail officers and ignored many senior officials. He said their names were excluded from the mandatory training last year notwithstanding the IG had promised in written to include their names in the list of officers who were to be promoted to the rank of deputy superintendent jail.

The petitioner maintained that the IG had finalised the list of 20 jail officers (assistant superintendent jail BS-16) for the mandatory training, but at the eleventh hour he included another name of his choice without considering the seniority and duration of service of the petitioners and others senior officers.

The petitioners prayed the court to declare the act of IG as illegal and void ab initio and issue him directions to include the names of the petitioners as per their seniority. They also prayed the court to allow them permission to participate in the mandatory training session provisionally, so that their length of service remains intact and they be timely promoted as deputy superintendent jail.
