The arrested contactor of orange line project Amir Latif has offered to pay Rs 250 million as plea bargain to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after pleading guilty in corruption charges.

NAB officials have initially accepted the offer and decided to send the case to the accountability court. Sources said the decision was taken after approval from the executive board. Sources added that Amir Latif was accused of embezzlements worth billions in development projects in NA-81 Faisalabad.

During the NAB investigation, it was revealed that the accused received payments from various departments without approval of the competent authority.

NAB is still undecided about the arrests of other officials involved in making payments to Amir Latif without approval, sources said, adding that the payments were made illegally.

It is pertinent to mention that the majority of projects of Amir Latif were in the constituency of Rana Sanaullah, who had expressed displeasure over the arrest of Amir Latif. Under NAB laws, if a contractor pleads guilty, he is ineligible for any contract for ten years.

Sources said that the final decision about the release of Amir Latif would be made after approval of the offer by the court.
