Death toll rises to 47 in flood-hit southern Thailand

BANGKOK – A total of 47 people were confirmed killed by the flash floods and mudslides in southern Thailand, authority said on Tuesday.
The department of Disaster Pravention and Mitigation said Nakorn Si Thammarat is the most deadly province where 20 people died in floods caused by heavy rains that have pummeled the coastline of the Gulf of Thailand since March 23.
Provinces hit by major flooding are Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Surat Thani, Trang, Chumphon, Songkhla, Krabi and Phangnga. As many as 2,009,134 people from 601,085 households have been affected and 1.679 million square metres of farmland submerged, according to the department.
