Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafiq Rajwana has said that local bodies are nurseries of democracy and the elected representatives should serve the people of their respective areas with the best of their abilities.

He stated this while talking to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) elected chairmen and vice-chairmen from the local bodies’ seats in Karachi on Wednesday.

The delegation led by Aslam Bhutta included Aslam Anwar Masood, Asif Khan, Saeedullah Afridi, Amn Afridi, Dr Sher, Malik Taj, Mumtaz Ahmed, Haji Sher and others. The governor was of the view that most of the local bodies representatives elected from Karachi belonged to backward areas. The federal government would do its best to help remove the backwardness of these areas, he pledged. He said the credit for the success of PML-N in the recent local bodies polls went to the people-friendly policies pursued by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The governor pointed out that the political and military leadership were on the same page for restoration of peace.
