Religious activists out against Qadri’s hanging

Religious parties held a protest demonstration on Monday in different parts of the city against execution of Mumtaz Qadri in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for killing former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer.

The angry demonstrators blocked the road at Numaish Chowrangi and burnt tyres. Meanwhile, Section-144 has been imposed in Karachi to foil rallies causing trouble in the city.

The Sunni Tehreek (ST), Ahle Sunnat (AS) and others parties also held protest demonstrations in Liaquatabad, Numaish Chowrangi areas, at Hassan Square and near National Highway against the hanging of Qadri. The protesters burnt tyres on roads, causing hours long traffic snarls in Sharifabad area near Hassan Square and other localities of the metropolis.

Mumtaz Qadri, convicted for killing Salmaan Taseer, was executed at around 4:30 am on Monday at Adiala Jail. Jail authorities confirmed his execution.

Qadri had shot dead Taseer in Islamabad’s Kohsar Market on January 4, 2011.

An anti-terrorism court had convicted and sentenced him to death for assassinating Taseer. The conviction was upheld by the Islamabad High Court and Supreme Court as well. Qadri’s mercy appeal was also rejected by President Mamnoon Hussain.

    how much time Qadri gave to Taseer?
