The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ehtesab Commission Amendment Ordinance Review Committee on Monday suggested comprehensive amendments in the existing law in order to make it more simple, workable and effective.
It was also decided in the meeting that the Search and Scrutiny Committee will initiate the process for the selection of the new Director General of the KP Ehtesab Commission as the former DG of the Commission resigned last month following the proposed amendments.
According to a party announcement, the committee constituted by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan met to discuss the law comprehensively, particularly in light of the experience over the last couple of years.
In light of the discussions in the committee, it was decided to withdraw the amendments and a detailed amendment bill will be introduced in the KP Assembly to make it more effective and comprehensive and to strengthen the process of independent accountability in the province, the party’s announcement said.
Party Chief Imran Khan has directed the committee to expedite the process of drafting the amendment bill to be presented before the KP Assembly.
Earlier, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that he had directed the KP cabinet to withdraw the amendments.
“As I had committed, I chaired the committee meeting to review KP Ehtesab Commission Amendment Ordinance,” Khan said via Twitter, and added, “I have asked the KP cabinet to withdraw the amendments made through the ordinance.”
“A comprehensive amendment bill ensuring and strengthening effective and independent accountability will now be presented before the KP Assembly. I will ensure that the process of drafting this amendment bill is expedited. PTI will never compromise on its core commitment of accountability,” he said.
