A district court in Islamabad on Saturday handed over two director-generals of the Employees Old-age Benefit Institution (EOBI) to the FIA on a three-day remand in a corruption case.
EOBI DG Investment, Wahid Khurshid and EOBI DG Accounts and Finance, Najmul Saqib were presented before Additional Magistrate Abdul Ghafoor Kakar on Saturday.
FIA Anti-Corruption Cell Investigation Officer Afzal Khan Niazi told the court the accused have embezzled millions of rupees in a project of overseas employment corporation tower by increasing its cost unlawfully.
He said that the accused in connivance of other officials increased the cost of the project from Rs600 million to Rs1,539 million. The accused had been arrested after their bail plea was rejected by the Islamabad High Court. The FIA official sought a five-day remand of the accused; however, the court allowed a three-day 0remand of the accused and directed the investigation officer to present them again on March 1.
