The NAB has challenged in the Supreme Court the bail granted to Chaudhry Sher Ali, the father of State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, by the Lahore High Court.

The NAB has taken the plea that Ch Sher Ali in the capacity as mayor of Faisalabad and MNA caused million of rupees loss to the national kitty through embezzlement of funds. An accountability court had convicted and sentenced Ch Sher Ali to 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs20 million, but he moved the LHC against his conviction. The LHC set aside the conviction while ignoring the facts and granted him bail on December 9, 2015, the NAB said.

The NAB prayed to the court to set aside the LHC decision and uphold the trial court’s conviction verdict. Ch Sher Ali and others have been made respondents in the application.
