Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) Karachi’s telephone connections have been disconnected once again due to non-payment on Friday.
An official at Karachi Metropolitan Corporation said that ASH had 40 telephone connections out of which 30 had been disconnected over non-payment of the bills.
He said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s finance department had not paid the hospital’s telephone bills amounting to Rs 0.8 million since last few months due to financial crisis, therefore, telephones connections of the healthcare had been disconnected. The hospital management had been facing acute shortage of medicines, while food supply to the patients had also been stopped due to financial issues since last few years.
The officials said that Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) had also issued a warning to the hospital administration to clear its outstanding dues amounting to over Rs 10 million otherwise the gas supply to the hospital would be disconnected within a week. He added further that the contractor, supplying oxygen to the hospital, had also been demanding early release of his dues.
ASH’s Medical Superintend Dr Azfar Moid confirmed that the hospital’s telephone connections had been disconnected over non-payment. He said that the hospital administration was unable to clear dues because of financial crisis.
