Court orders govt to arrange Aafia Siddiqui’s meeting with family

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday expressed displeasure on steps taken by the government in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and directed it to take steps for meeting and telephonic communication of Aafia Siddiqui with her family.

According to details, a single bench of IHC comprising Justice Nooruddin Haq heard the petition of Dr Fowzia Siddiqui.

The court commented that US spy Raymond Davis was allowed to go home in a few days but what steps has the government taken so far on Aafia’s issue. The court sought written reply from the government and instructed the government lawyer to take steps for communication and meeting of Aafia Siddiqui with her family.

Meanwhile in Sindh High Court (SHC) a division bench comprising Justice Sajjad Ali Shah and Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan heard the petition of Dr Fowzia Siddiqui. The petitioner was represented by Advocate Salman Butt.

The attorney general of Sindh submitted before the court that a summary regarding Dr Aafia Siddiqui case has already been sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
