CM all praise for China, Exim Bank

Chinese Consul General Yu Boren met Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Wednesday and congratulated him that Exim Bank China has declared funds for the Orange Line Metro Train Project effective.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that Chinese leadership, government and officials of Exim Bank of China have once again expressed complete confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif by declaring funds for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project effective. He thanked Chinese leadership, government and officials of Exim Bank. He said that declaring of funds effective for the project of Orange Line Metro Train project by China is an important milestone and 180 million people of Pakistan are very happy over this important progress. He said that Orange Line Metro Train is the project of Pakistan and on completion of this project, citizens will travel through metro train honourably. He said that the announcement of making funds effective by Exim Bank of China for Orange Line Metro Train project is a good news for Pakistani people.

Sharif said that the confidence expressed by China in the present leadership of Pakistan is of historic importance in the friendship of both the countries. He said that nefarious designs of a handful of elements criticising on metro train project have been foiled. He said that the political parties making public welfare project controversial have no concern with the people and such political parties should shun negative politics and should not create hindrance in public welfare projects. The chief minister said that all possible steps have been taken for the protection of historical places and no historical heritage will be affected. He said that we will come up to the confidence expressed by Chinese leadership and the government and metro train project will be completed by working round the clock.

Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Consul General Yu Boren said that Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is forwarding public welfare projects with commitment. Kh. Ahmed Hassaan, MD Punjab Mass Transit Authority and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, a delegation headed by Director London School of Economics Craig Calhoun met Sharif here on Wednesday. Matters relating to cooperation between the Punjab government and London School of Economics in research sector were discussed in the meeting. The prospects of exchange of students and faculty members of London School of Economics and educational institutions of Punjab were also discussed on the occasion and it was agreed to take more steps for keeping close liaison in future in this regard. Talking to the delegation, Sharif said that research cannot be ignored for benefiting from modern technology. He said that in view of importance of research, the Punjab government will work with London School of Economic in development and research sector in the future. He said that the expertise of London School of Economics will be benefited in this regard.

The chief minister said that all possible cooperation will be extended with regard to international summit being held in Lahore next month under the aegis of London School of Economics. Sharif said that he himself will visit London School of Economics during his next visit to Britain. Director London School of Economics Craig Calhoun speaking on the occasion said that cooperation will be extended to the Punjab government in research sector. He said that London School of Economic will hold international summit in Lahore next month. He said that the situation in Pakistan is improving. Provincial Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Advisor Dr Ijaz Nabi, Secretary Higher Education, Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi and officials concerned besides senior officials of London School of Economics were present on the occasion.
