DCOs asked to expedite arms licencing

The Punjab government with an aim to implement the National Action Plan has issued instructions to District Coordination Officers (DCOs) of all districts to further expedite work on the automation and regularization of arm licences within their jurisdictions.

The DCOs have also been given target of computerisation the record of arm holders in their respective district within the stipulated timeline of the government. Well-placed official sources said the government issued instructions to the DCOs, keeping in view, the reports that one million arms of different categories excluding prohibited still were remaining to be registered through National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

Most of the one million arms were registered at district level in past through manual system and the government launched a drive to register the weapons through the NADRA to detect fake licences and illegal weapons.

Under the National Action Plan, the Home Department registered more than 500,000 arms of different categories across the province in a record time during the ongoing drive launched by the government in January 2015.
