The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Sunday said that compressed natural gas (CNG) prices would be reduced after the arrival of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar in the first week of next month.
The APCNGA has been trying to keep the cost of LNG based CNG 30 per cent lower than the petrol prices, said Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman Supreme Council of APCNGA, said in a statement.
He said the imported LNG would not only benefit consumers but also revive Rs 450 billion CNG industry which would reduce oil import bill, pollution and unemployment. He said that the LNG import at the rate of less than $5 per MMBTU was a great achievement of the government which would prove to be a game changer for the economy. Ghiyas Paracha said the deal would improve energy mix, reduce the energy crisis and ensure rapid national development. The credit of LNG deal, he said, went to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
He said the LNG import would help power plants, CNG, fertiliser, textile and value-added sector, besides saving $1 billion per annum for the government. He said the impact of LNG import would be felt before the effect of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor on the economy.
