At least 29 shrines across the Rawalpindi district have been vulnerable to various threats as no proper security has been put in place by the local administration for their protection.
The shrines have no walk-through gates, metal detectors, razor-wire on walls as a large number of devotees flock these shrines to pay their respect to the saints.
The Auqaf Department gets millions of rupees in budget for the upkeep and security of the shrines but they have been left to various threats
Rawalpindi Auqaf Department Administrator Abdul Hameed said that the provincial government has not released additional funds for the security of the shrines. “We are incurring security expenses from our own resources,” he claimed.
