Over 40 million rural people to get Saaf Pani: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that implementation of the Saaf Pani project has been started in south Punjab and billions of rupees will be spent on it during the next two and a half years.

Addressing a meeting at Civil Secretariat through video link which reviewed progress of the Saaf Pani project, Sharif said that over 40 million rural people would benefit from it.

He said that billions of rupees were misappropriated during the dictatorial era in the name of supply of drinking water and installation of water filtration plants, whereas the Saaf Pani project would be an example of quality and transparency like other projects of the Punjab government.

The chief minister said that availability of potable water was the basic right of every citizen, and supply of clean drinking water was an important step in the provision of healthy facilities to the citizens. “It will also help control the diseases spread by unhygienic water,” he added.

Sharif said the Saaf Pani project was of vital importance, therefore work should be carried out on the project in a professional manner. He said that a high standard would be maintained while the project would be implemented with transparency.

Punjab Housing Minister Tanvir Aslam Malik, Punjab Saaf Pani Company Chairman Muhammad Kashif Padhiar, MPA Engineer Qamarul Islam, the Planning & Development chairman, Saaf Pani Company chief executive officer and officials concerned attended the meeting. Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, the secretary law and officers concerned participated in the meeting at Model Town through vide link.
