The City Police are soon going to have their own trauma centre for police officials and their families, Pakistan Today has learnt. A summary for release of funds has been approved to make the hospital being built at the Police Lines, Qilla Gujjar Singh, functional.

According to details, the 40-bed hospital will have 17 specialist doctors, surgeons and consultants for treatment of ailing cops. The hospital was built in 2013 but could not go functional due to lack of funds, sources said.

The City Police had requested the Punjab chief minister to release the funds to make the hospital functional after which the Planning and Development Department has approved the summary for release of a sum of Rs 100 million.

The double-storey trauma centre will have an emergency block, indoors, outdoors, laboratories and all modern medical facilities available for police employees. Earlier, policemen used to get medical treatment at Mayo and Services hospitals, but from now on this trauma centre would cater to their needs efficiently.

Talking to Pakistan Today, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Dr Haider Ashraf confirmed that the summary for release of funds had been approved. He said the hospital would be made functional in the shortest span of time of one or two months. “The hospital will have pediatricians, qualified surgeons and consultants. The families of police officials will also benefit from this hospital,” he added.

The DIG said that the hospital would also be equipped with ultrasound and X-Ray machines, adding that medical officers and paramedical staff would also be hired to bring this hospital at par with other trauma centres of the city.

This hospital is going to be the second hallmark of Lahore Police in recent months if it is made functional in the near future as the 8330 SMS service is also giving positive outputs since its launch.
