Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan and Iraq are united in the battle against terrorism, fostering cooperation among the Muslim world and supporting an inclusive democracy.
He was talking to the Ambassador of Iraq, Dr. Ali Yasin Mohammad Karim who called on him here in the Parliament House, on Friday.
The speaker highlighted that Iraq enjoys great historical reverence for Muslims throughout the world therefore peace and security of the Middle East is inherently dependent upon a peaceful Iraq.
He added that active participation of the parliamentary delegates from the entire Islamic World in Conference of Parliamentary Union of Islamic Countries (PUIC) hosted by Iraq was a demonstration of confidence in Iraq’s society to defy the threat of terror.
Ayaz Sadiq also expressed his gratitude for warm hospitality extended to Pakistan’s Parliamentary delegation during the recent PUIC hosted by Iraq while appreciating Iraq’s diplomatic endeavours to address common issues that afflicted the Muslim Ummah.
Referring to the cultural, religious and eternal bonds of brotherhood between Iraq and Pakistan, the speaker emphasized that both countries have resolved to usher in to a new era of cooperation for tackling the challenges which have inversely affected the region and the Muslim World. He stated that Pakistan has immense confidence in the resilience and capacity of the Iraqi government and society.
He reiterated Pakistan’s reach out to Iraq through stronger inter-Parliamentary engagements and support for each other on various forums. He also stressed on the need for strengthening economic and military ties. He assured Iraq’s Ambassador of Pakistan’s full cooperation in various fields specially health, legislation and counter-terrorism.
Dr. Ali Yasin Muhammad Karim admired Pakistan’s deep confidence in Iraq and the value it attached to enduring brotherly relations with Iraq. He remarked that an excellent relation with Pakistan is paramount in Iraqi foreign policy.
He added that Pakistan’s generous assistance for effective governance and legislation is a milestone in Pak-Iraq parliamentary diplomatic engagements and that Ayaz Sadiq has initiated a new era of sustained parliamentary engagements.
