The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) administration has sacked 11 daily wagers despite the government’s assurances that no employee would be terminated.
According to details, these daily wagers have been sacked for violating the essential services act. Those sacked included Irfan, Nasir, Muhammad Rizwan, Aminullah, Sarfaraz, Mazhar Ali and others.
Apart from that, the PIA administration has issued show-cause notices to hundreds of its employees. The continuity of job of such employees is now directly linked to their satisfactory explanations in response to the notices served on them.
The federal government had recently imposed the essential services act to crush countrywide protests of PIA employees against proposed privatisation of the national flag carrier.
After ending a two week-long protest across the country, the Pakistan International Airlines’ joint action committee (JAC) submitted to the government’s demand and met with Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for dialogue on the issue of privatisation of PIA.
