Govt striving for uplifting standard of common man: CM

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the government is implementing a comprehensive programme for the welfare and uplift of the people and raising their living standard. He said that provision of maximum facilities to the common man is the top priority of the government and public welfare projects are being completed on priority basis. He said that projects worth billions of rupees have been started for the development of urban areas as well as strengthening of rural economy. He said that billions of rupees have been saved through maintaining a high standard and transparency in the execution of development projects. He said that water supply, repair and rehabilitation of rural roads as well as energy projects will be completed within stipulated period at any cost.

He was addressing a meeting through video link at Civil Secretariat on Monday, which reviewed the pace of projects aimed at welfare of the masses. The chief minister said that mega projects for the progress of people and provision of basic amenities to the citizens have been completed speedily throughout the province while the programme for uplift and prosperity of the masses is also being implemented successfully. He said that Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Self-Employment Scheme, provision of interest-free loans, transport projects, establishment of new hospitals besides a number of welfare projects have been completed and a large number of people are benefiting from these projects.

He said that under the policy of balanced development, equal attention is being paid to the uplift of cities as well as rural areas. He said that development schemes are being completed on priority basis in backward areas. Provincial Minister for Finance Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, chairman Planning and Development, secretaries concerned and senior officers attended the meeting from Civil Secretariat through video link.

Norwegian Ambassador: Ambassador of Norway Tore Nedrebo called on Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Monday.

Matter of mutual interest, bilateral relations and promotion of cooperation in different sectors were discussed in the meeting. The chief minister said that there are deep friendly relations between Pakistan and Norway and vast opportunities exist for promotion of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. He said there is a need of further strengthening relations between Norway and Pakistan. He said that Norway is extending commendable cooperation for promotion of public health facilities and development of social sectors.

Sharif said that investors of Norway can further promote cooperation in hydro projects, agriculture, dairy farming and other sectors. He said the Punjab government has created a conducive atmosphere for investment in the province and provision of infrastructure and maximum facilities are being provided for investment. He said that Norwegian investors can invest in different sectors in Punjab. He said that a large number of Pakistanis live in Norway and they consider Norway as their second home. The ambassador of Norway said that his country wants to promote relations with Pakistan especially Punjab in different sectors. He said that Punjab has made tremendous progress under the leadership of CM Sharif.
