The Lahore High Court (HC) Monday was moved for providing fool proof security to the media houses in the wake of terror threats on Monday.

Advocate Azhar Siddique filed a plea on behalf of the Lahore Press Club stating that the government has failed to provide security to media outlets.

The plea has been filed 12 hours after miscreants opened fire outside City 42 office in Lahore.

The petition mentioned the latest attack on the television channel and declared provision of security as government’s responsibility as per the Constitution of Pakistan.

The plea requested the court to initiate legal action against Punjab home minister for not fulfilling his responsibilities. The LHC has been requested to take notice of the issue and order the government to realise its responsibility.

On Sunday night, unidentified armed motorcyclists opened firing on City42 office located on Jail Road and fled from the scene. Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif while taking notice of the incident ordered immediate arrest of the culprits.

In November 2015, Dunya News came under attack as unknown assailants hurled a grenade at its Bureau office in Faisalabad, injuring three employees. The attack shattered window panes, while cars and motorcycles parked outside were significantly damaged by the explosion. Threatening pamphlets were also dropped at the crime scene.

On January 13, ARY office in federal capital’s F-7 area was attacked by unidentified motorcyclists.
