The country would make rapid and fast progress in all fields with the elimination of corruption as it was adversely affecting social fabric.
These views were expressed by Director General (DG) Awareness & Prevention of Corruption, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Aliya Rashid on Friday.
She was delivering a lecture on “Say NO to Corruption-Role of Youth on Prevention of Corruption” to the students of Air University.
In her address, Aliya Rashid highlighted the main causes of the scourge of corruption and said “What we all need to learn is that all people are stakeholders in facing the challenge of corruption and that corruption causes colossal damage to the country’s economy and harms national institutions.”
She said, it is the main hurdle in the socio, economic, progress and above all, corruption erodes the concept of the role of law and due process of justice in the country.
Aliya Rashid believed that youth, especially those studying in universities, would play a leading role in curbing corruption from the society.
The participants were also apprised of various awareness activities carried out by NAB for the awareness of general public and specially the youth.
The director general of NAB informed the audience about the Comic Story Book “Gogi Says NO to Corruption” and shared contents of the story which was appreciated with applause by the students.
She apprised the participants about various forms of corruption and the concerted efforts being taken by the NAB to prevent corruption and corrupt practices followed by various legislations.
It was informed that Pakistan is proud leading country to adopt “Say NO to Corruption Logo” on utility bills, driving licenses, ATM machines, routine government correspondences, public sector print advertisements and also the first country to introduce postal stamp bearing Say No to Corruption Logo.
I have to be honest, I don't hold out much hope of that changing. But you never know. I would love to see it.
I guess its like any social reform… the scales will tip when enough people in their society decide to join the enlightened world community.
