Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Sherry Rehman attended the US National Prayer Breakfast in Washington on Thursday.
“Pleasure to attend 64th National Prayer Breakfast. Last address by President Barack Obama,” Bilawal Bhutto tweeted.
US President Barack Obama was the chief guest and the main speaker at the annual event. Every US president since Dwight D Eisenhower has participated in the prayer breakfast.
Sherry Rehman also tweeted pictures of the event, saying, “With US Congresswoman Shiela Jackson Lee who heads the Pakistan Caucus in DC. Worked with her many years for Pakistan.”
President Barack Obama, taking on Republican presidential candidates for stirring up anxiety among Americans, told leaders that faith could conquer fear brought on by war, technology, and economic troubles.
“It is a primal emotion, fear, one that we all experience. And it can be contagious, spreading through societies, and through nations,” Obama said.
“For me, and I know for so many of you, faith is the great cure for fear. Jesus is a good cure for fear. God gives believers the power, the love, the sound mind required to conquer any fear. And what more important moment for that faith than right now?” he said.
Obama’s remarks come a day after his first visit to a US mosque, where he sought to allay fears of Americans accustomed to pop-culture portrayals of Muslims as terrorists and to reassure Muslim American youth about their identity.
There will be thousands more guests but good to be with than not. At least some will recognize Bilawal as son of a stupid who had been holding his wife's photo in his hands and put it on the podium during the UNGA meeting last.
