Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting on Saturday in which progress on the plan of making big cities of the province including Lahore green through horticulture was reviewed and approval was given to construct cultural pavilion at Dera Gujran near Ring Road.
Addressing the meeting, Sharif said the Punjab government is making the projects beautiful and attractive through horticulture in the province. He said that besides planting of saplings under tree plantation campaign, their look after is also essential and effective steps should be taken for this purpose. He said greenbelts should be developed alongside roads where suitable space is available and these greenbelts should be developed in such a manner that the routes should not become narrow. He said attention should be paid to making the cities beautiful through flowers and plants. The chief minister said that a comprehensive plan of horticulture should be evolved on the route of Orange Line Metro Train.
He said the proposal of developing greenbelts on railway track from Shahdra to Raiwind should also be considered. He said a plan regarding horticulture around roads on both sides of drains should be evolved and the model of LOS drain should be replicated in this regard.
Sharif said that the work of identification of land for setting up forest park in Lahore should be completed at the earliest. He said that land should also be identified for setting up forest parks in other big cities of the province. He said planning should be made for constructing cultural pavilions in big cities and proposals be submitted. He said that along big roads, the work for beautifying walls of public and private buildings through horticulture should be expedited. The chief minister said that a comprehensive plan should be presented for setting up picnic points and places of recreational facilities for children on both sides of canal from Thokar Niaz Baig to Jallo.
