  • Street One Café, Gloria Jeans and Cordon Rouge among restaurants sealed over unhygienic conditions

Street One Café, Gloria Jeans, and Cordon Rouge Restaurant were sealed on Thursday after the Islamabad Administration raided the eateries under its campaign against adulteration and sub-standard/un-hygienic food outlets.

Extremely unhygienic and unhealthy food was found on the premises of all three eateries, which are situated at the Diplomatic Enclave. Putrefied food items and expired bakery products were found in storage, including cookies, cream, and sausages.

Various other products were displayed without expiration dates. The chefs and cooks preparing the food had no hairnets, safety gloves, or safety shoes, and had visibly dirty nails. No medical fitness tests or vaccination records were found for any of the food handlers.

Cordon Rouge Restaurant was found openly selling liquor; Gloria Jeans was serving expired imported coffee; and expired chicken/meat products were found in One Café freezers.

Moreover, rusted utensils with a heavy accumulation of carbon, and inadequate drainage arrangements that caused the accumulation of stagnant water on the floors, were also observed

Samples of all expired food products were obtained for chemical examination by NIH labs and sent forth for expert analysis.

During the raids, around 14 other outlets were checked in the city and fines were imposed.

Deputy Commissioner Capt (r) Mushtaq Ahmed said that the campaign against adulteration and sale of substandard/un-hygienic food will continue without any discrimination and strict action would be taken against all those elements that put the health of citizens at risk.

He said that the Islamabad administration seeks active cooperation not only from the residents of the capital but also from the business community.

Capt (r) Mushtaq said that immediate and strict action would follow if citizens brought forward their complaints.

“We strongly encourage citizens, and most importantly the business community, to forge a robust partnership with the administration for the betterment of the city,” he said.
