Armed forces, nation fully capable to thwart any threat, says President Mamnoon

President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday said that the Pakistan Armed Forces and the nation were fully capable to thwart any internal and external threat to the country.

Addressing a convocation ceremony here at the National University of Sciences and Technology, he said both the government and the nation were committed to continue efforts till elimination of terrorism.

“I warn the terrorists and their sponsors to have no doubt that the nation and the armed forces will not rest till the elimination of last terrorist from the country’s soil.”

Pakistan, he said, had already been successful to eliminate the menace of terrorism to a great extent. The reasons and circumstances due to which the extremist and terrorist tendencies prevailed in the country, should be pondered over so as to devise policies to counter the same in future, he added.

Mamnoon said extremism and terrorism during the last few decades had created many problems in the country and it was now imperative to train the officers and personnel of the armed forces on modern lines so as to face the threats.

He said now a day’s defence sciences had gained an important dimension. Political, diplomatic and even economic affairs were linked to defence matters. Therefore, the process should continue to improve military art and science courses to meet future needs, he added.

The president said in the past the national resources were wasted due to which the country faced economic problems. Projects for overcoming power shortage were not initiated in time. Moreover, corruption and misappropriation of national funds further damaged the economy.

The only way to steer the country out of all crises was elimination of corruption and the youth could play an important role in that regard, he added.

He said that Pakistan had improved its grading by controlling corruption. It was only the SAARC country which had improved its Corruption Perception Index score, according to the figures of Transparency International. The development was the result of government’s policies and public cooperation, he added.

Speaking about China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he assured that it was important project for the economic growth. There was no change in the CPEC route, he added.
