Petition seeking 3-year extension in Army Chief’s tenure filed in SC

A petition seeking three-year extension in the service of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif was filed in the Supreme Court on Monday.

Petitioner Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi in his application took the plea that the operation Zarb-e-Azb, which has been hailed as bone-breaker of terror outfits, was continuing successfully under the Army Chief’s leadership. Moreover, situation in Karachi was also moving towards betterment.

The extension in the service tenure of General Raheel Sharif’ was needed for the elimination of extremism and terrorism from the country, he maintained.

The petitioner mentioned that during the tenure of General Raheel Sharif as Army Chief, terror attacks had lessened across the country.

He requested the apex court to hear the case on January 29, maintaining the Federation, the President and the Prime Minister as parties.
