High-level committee formed to probe Charsadda uni attack

The Apex Committee that met under the Chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan on Friday decided to form a high-level committee to probe the Bacha Khan attack.

The effort is to be led by the Peshawar division commissioner. The commission will investigate security arrangements made on the day of the deadly terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University, in which about 21 people were killed and dozens others were injured.

The committee will identity elements responsible for negligence and lapses in the security of the university. It was directed to submit its report within five days.

This decision was taken during an extra ordinary meeting of the Apex Committee held at Governor’s House in wake of the Bacha Khan University attack.

KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Corps Commander Lt Gen Hidayatur Rehman, Chief Secretary Amjad Ali Khan, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani and Additional Chief Secretary FATA Aslam Kamboh and Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs, Acting Inspector General Frontier Corps KP Brigadier Qasier Ali, Commandant Frontier Constabulary Liaquat Khan and other senior officers attended the session.

The committee reviewed the development and progress made in the investigation of the terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University.

The committee was told, on credible information, that effective action had been taken against the gang and facilitators involved in the horrific attack.

The political and military leadership on this occasion reiterated their strong commitment and firm resolve to bring the killers of innocent children and citizens to justice and said that they would be dealt with swiftly.

They said that the terrorists have challenged the honour of the nation by attacking innocent students in Bacha Khan University and would not be spared.

The meeting also reviewed progress on National Action Plan (NAP) besides law and order situation in KP and Fata.

The committee decided to review protective measures put in place for all educational institutes of the province and said that action would be taken against those that did not take mandatory security measures for the safety of their schools.

The committee stressed the need for effective measures for solution of problems related to border management for countering the menace of terrorism.

The committee said proposals regarding capacity of Police and Frontier Constabulary and implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) were being sent to the Federal Government and expressed the hope that Federal Government would take cogent actions in matters related to the Federation.

The committee said that the cooperation of people in the fight against terrorism on the interior front was extremely important to foil the nefarious designs of terrorism. It urged people to contact the Emergency Number 1125 helpline in case they see any suspicious activities and elements in their surroundings and areas.

The members of the Committee offered special prayers for eternal peace for the martyrs of Bacha Khan University and Karakhano market attacks. Earlier, the governor welcomed the participants of the meeting.

The governor said that the nation was standing with the victims’ families in their hour of need and their sacrifices would not go waste. He said the facilitators of terrorists would also be brought to justice.
