Aksel Lund Svindal extended his overall lead to 107 points by winning the FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup super-G race in Kitzbuhel.

The Norwegian took his tally of victories to seven in the first half of Friday’s alpine combined event in the famous Austrian resort to move further clear of nearest rival Marcel Hirscher, who finished in a tie for 23rd.

Svindal added another 100 points to his overall and super-G total by clocking one minute 11.79 seconds to top the podium yet again.

Olympic silver medallist Andrew Weibrecht took second place – only his second top-three finish in a World Cup event – after completing the course 0.31secs slower than the brilliant Svindal.

Hannes Reichelt took third place in his homeland, with Kjetil Jansrud just missing out on a podium finish.

As well as being the overall leader, Svindal tops the super-G standings with a 120-point advantage over Weibrecht, while Jansrud is a further 24 points back in third.

The second part of the combined event comprises of a slalom race later in the day.
