Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman Dr Umar Saif said the board had transparently distributed more than Rs 22 billion among 1,009,383 farmers of 33 districts of Punjab within 2 months under Kissan Package.

The programme was assisted by PITB.

Addressing a meeting held at Arfa Software Technology Park on Monday, Saif said, “This is a record, no other organisation has achieved such a big target in such a short span of time.”

He added that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Rs 341 billion would be given to the loss-bearing growers under this programme.

Saif said that under manual paper work, the huge task could take lot of time and the impoverished farmers would have to wait long to get the assistance.

Moreover the paper work has many flaws particularly delays and embezzlements that could deprive a number of destitute of their right. But the computerised process left little space for such hassles, he added.

He said “The process is made very easy as verification of the target farmers is made through special NADRA counters and the amount of assistance is made through Punjab or National Bank counters. All the process is completed through a dashboard centered at the PITB.”

He told that the PITB was also assisting Punjab Government by verifying the flood affected persons, assessing their damages and paying the compensation amounts in an efficient and transparent manner.
