The Supreme Court (SC) has expressed displeasure over the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and provincial bar council’s failure to file a reply for disciplinary action against lawyers in the degree verification case, and has sought a reply within 30 days.
The Punjab government has filed a reply on the availability of funds in connection with the verification of degrees, and said that a committee has been constituted under the Punjab law minister, which is proposing measures for the availability of funds and the initiation of a process to verify lawyers’ degrees in a transparent manner. A meeting of the committee was held on December 4, 2015. This report has been presented by Additional Advocate General Punjab Razzaq A Mirza before a three-member bench of the SC led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali.
It has been said in the report that the committee has sought proposals from Higher Education Commission (HEC) in this regard.
“As the replies from Pakistan Bar Council and provincial bar councils have not come therefore, reminders are being issued to them. Further hearing will take place after one month,” the court remarked.
