Adviser to Chief Minister on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that solid steps are being taken to make the Burn Unit of Jinnah Hospital fully functional up to its capacity.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting to review the progress to make the Burn Unit fully functional here at Civil Secretariat on Monday.
Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah, Additional Secretary Development Mehmood Hasan, Principal Allama Iqbal Medical College Prof. Mehmood Shaukut, Project Director Prof Moazzam Tarer and Medical Superintendent Jinnah Hospital Dr Shafqat also attended the meeting. Prof. Moazzam Tarer informed that out of seven operation theatres, five are functional and 50 out of 75 beds are being utilised. He further informed that in-door and out- door treatment of burn cases has been started in the burn unit, however, serious patients are not taken as the Intensive Care Unit is (ICU) is yet to be made functional, for which anesthesia doctors are required.
Tarer said that SNE of 314 vacancies was approved out them 264 vacancies have been filled. Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah directed the officers to create 10 seats of Post Graduate Trainees in anesthesia for the ICU of Burn Unit so it could be made functional as soon as possible.
Salman Rafique said Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has provided Rs 100 million as a special grant for the burn unit and PGRs post would also be provided to start ICU of the Jinnah Burn Unit.
