National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways was informed on Friday that the business train would resume its operations by the end of this month after necessary up-gradation.
The committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Syed Naveed Qamar. Briefing the Committee, Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafiq said that the court had decided the case in favour of Pakistan Railways and now the suspended train would restore its operations between Lahore and Karachi.
Briefing the committee about the development projects of Railways Ministry, the minister said that they had signed an agreement with an American firm for procurement of 55 locomotives of above 4,000 horse power. The meeting was informed that the tendering process for purchase of another 20 locomotives was underway.
The minister also apprised the NA body on the cases pending with the National Accountability Bureau and sought the committee’s help for resolution of Royal Palm case, which is sub judice before the apex court.
