India is mulling its options on whether to go ahead with foreign secretary-level talks with Pakistan scheduled for later this month after militants attacked an Indian Air Force (IAF) base over the weekend, a government official said on Monday.
A final decision on the talks, scheduled for January 15, is expected to be taken after security forces have completed their operation at the Pathankot air base, near the Pakistan border, the source said, requesting anonymity.
The move comes after a brazen militant attack on the Pathankot air base, a sprawling compound that lies 25km from the border with Pakistan, on January 2.
The attack, a rare targeting of an Indian military installation outside the disputed region of Kashmir, threatens to undermine a tentative thaw in relations with Pakistan.
A fresh gun battle commenced on January 3 and fresh firing was reported on today (Monday). Pakistan strongly condemned the attack.
Officials said the attack bore the hallmarks of previous suspected assaults by Pakistan-based militant groups, underscoring the fragility of recent efforts to revive bilateral talks between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
Ajit Duval is a no non sense guy. If apakistan is involved , he will provide solid info to Janjua. It will be entirely up to COAS , establishment will need to walk the talk. Catch them and try them in Miltary court and shoot them like they did Peshawar culprits. Otherwise forget this Modi-Nawaj drama entirely.
Ps if Duval knows that it was a local group, he will find them and he will admit it.
Too much at stake both parties now in the SCO and greater cooperation is going about to stop USA hegemony!
This is so typical of Pakistan, they assure their neighbors and the rest of the world not to let their controlled territories be used for attacks on others. In good-faith and naively the neighbors believe them and soon upon after the good neighbors take an initiative to improve relations they (Pakistan) shows them how they can at their will continue the clandestine activities using state & non-state actors. This of course isn't the first time & may not be the last time, the only way the world will rid of the problem is to eliminate the State of Pakistan as it exists!
