Police encounter in Gizri area of Karachi has become a mystery as the main complainant has refused to recognise the late student, Zakria, whereas police have claimed that he (complainant) has identified both the suspects.

The written report of the incident has been submitted to higher authorities in which it has been said that police were informed on January 1 at 11 pm that two motorcycle riders were doing a robbery. The officials reached the scene and on identification of the complainant, the police chased the suspects, it said.

The report also states that the alleged suspect Zakria fled after a robbery and was killed during a clash in Defense Phase-7 while his accomplice Ghulam Azad was injured. Police claimed in the report that they recovered four mobile phones and weapons from the possession of suspects.

Besides, written statement of the complainant has also been attached with the report. On the other hand, a local court remanded suspect Ghulam Azad for one day in police custody. He will be presented today in an anti-terrorism court (ATC).

The clarity of the case has been compromised with many calling the encounter as ‘fake’. The police registered four cases against the suspect. The police itself is the complainant in three of the cases. The police on late Friday had gunned down the student in Gizri area. Zakria had returned from Malaysia after completing his education just six days ago. The bereaved family has said that the 25-year-old was martyred in a fake encounter. On January 1, Zakria was in Gizri area along with his friend, Azad.
