A student, who returned from Malaysia six days ago after completing education, was shot dead by police in an alleged encounter in Gizri area.

The Gizri police claimed that the student, Zakria, was a criminal involved in street crimes. However, a private news channel splashed his passport showing that he had completed his education in Malaysia and returned almost a week ago. The police also claimed to have arrested an accomplice.

His bereaved family said that 25-year-old Zakria was accompanied by his friend Azad in Gizri area on Friday, when he was killed in the fake encounter.

It may be mentioned that the arrest of 22-year-old Azad was not shown in the record of any police station.

Sindh Police have pulled up socks since the start of targeted operation led by Pakistan Rangers. However, tragic incidents like Zakria’s killing raise questions over the operation being conducted by law enforcers.
