As many as two arrested Tehrik-i-Taliban (TTP) operatives on Thursday revealed during interrogation that the banned outfit has formed a new network to collect extortion money after Operation Zarb-e-Azb broke its back.
The TTP operatives named Akhtar and Akbar were apprehended from Defense area. The two militants said that Pakistan Army’s large-scale operation had broken TTP’s back financially. Akhtar and Akbar said that the desperate banned outfit had formed a new network to support its ill motives.
“A group comprising six persons receives extortion money from industrialists. The group is governed by a commander in Waziristan,” they added.
The law enforcers were told that terrorists were residing in SITE area. “In case people refuse to pay the extortion money, they get a threat call from Wana.” The terrorists said that operatives who used to rob banks had either been caught or killed in police encounters.
Separately, Rangers and Sindh police in joint operations had arrested three terrorists and four target killers in Federal B Area and Orangi Town.
