Let’s be patient

Sometimes, as a nation we are too impatient. Take the example of PIA. The airline has come back from the ashes in the past few months and is slowly but surely making its way upwards to once again become a viable operation. It is not the airline’s fault that it has been fleeced by corrupt people and successive governments in the past, who have forced their workers into the airline though they were mostly without merit. This has resulted in a staff count that far exceeds the airline industry standard and makes PIA a white elephant.

Now things are moving in the right direction. The airline is turning in a profit, its aircraft fleet and route network has increased, service is much better than before and punctuality levels have improved. But change does not occur in a day and has to be patiently nurtured. The airline has inherited a number of negatives, such as lethargic staff, in-house corruption and heavy loans. The airline must be given some time to normalise things, especially in view of the fact that it is now a company and not a government corporation. Let’s be patient.
