Political parties on same page over Karachi operation: Pervaiz

Minister for Information Senator Pervaiz Rashid Tuesday said all the political parties were on the same page to continue the Karachi operation and consolidate its gains and successes.

Talking to media persons after attending a seminar of “effects of smuggling on Pakistan’s economy” here, he said the federal government would continue to play its role in maintaining the atmosphere of political reconciliation.

The issue of Rangers deployment in Sindh, he said, would be resolved in accordance with the law and Constitution. The federal government was following the policy of reconciliation.

Pervaiz Rashid said the government was concentrating on eliminating terrorism and restoring peace in Karachi as all the political parties were cooperating to make the mega city a peaceful city again.

The government, he said, was moving ahead in collaboration with the political parties while all institutions were working within the parameters of law and Constitution.

He said all were equal before the law of land and the government had never created hurdle in the implementation of the law. Legal experts of the federal government, he added, were examining the summary of the Sindh government over the issue of extension of Rangers’ powers and the decision would be taken in accordance with their opinion. All legal and constitutional requirements would be fulfilled, he said.

Earlier addressing the seminar, the minister said that the government would consider the recommendations of the seminar and take steps accordingly to control smuggling of illegal goods in the country.

He suggested that the latest technology should be utilized in broadening the tax base and checking the smuggling of illegal goods.
