794 residential buildings in commercial use, CDA tells SC

As many as 794 residential buildings are in commercial use in the Capital, revealed a report submitted to the Supreme Court by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

According to the report, after action by the DA, 241 houses have been cleared of commercial use while 104 private schools, guest houses, rest houses have also been forbidden from using the residential buildings. However the CDA said that the owners of these houses had gone to the high court for stay.

The report detailed that heavy fines were imposed for the use of 104 buildings for commercial use and 184 cases were lying with the Authority’s Building Control Section for decision.

The report said that 483 cases of illegal use of buildings were old while 311 new cases had come to the light. So far 323 cases had been decided, it added.

The apex court was informed that action was being taken against the illegal use of residential buildings across the board and notices had also been issued to the offices working in the residential buildings.
