Govt sets up new check posts to check smuggling of Iranian oil, smuggled POL worth Rs 193.6 million seized during July-September, 2015
The government has set up new check posts in different areas of Balochistan to check the smuggling of Iranian oil, which is causing huge losses to the national exchequer.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, new check posts have been established at Surab, Rakhni and Sheela Bagh in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate, Quetta.
Check posts have also been established at RCD Highway at Moachkjo, Super Highway near Toll Plaza and National Highway near Ghaggar Phatak, Karachi.
In addition existing check posts at Nokundi, Dalbandin, Lak Pass, Balleli, Dam and Bandh Murad have been fortified. Customs posts at Gwadar-Pasni Road, Gwadar ZeroPoint, Khari and Lak, Jetties at Jiwani, Pishukan, Surbunder and Dam have also been established in the jurisdiction of Model Customs Collectorate Gawadar.
A marine section has been established to gather information and thwart smuggling of POL from Iran through the sea as well.
The sources added that supervision of intelligence squads, anti smuggling mobile squads and mobile enforcement units has been enhanced. Also coordination with other law enforcement agencies for carrying joint operations against the smuggling of POL products has been enhanced.
In the light of these steps, the sources said 3,079,928 litres of POL valuing Rs 193.664 million was seized from July to September, 2015.
