Govt utilising resources for better health facilities: CM

Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif Friday said the provincial government is utilising all-out possible resources to ensure better health facilities for the people.
Addressing the first convocation ceremony of the University of Health Sciences here, he said the government has taken several steps for improvement of the medical sector and it had sent 200 doctors to Bangkok for advanced training.
The chief minister said that there were several weaknesses in the medical sector but the Punjab government is doing a lot for the improvement.
He said latest reforms would be introduced in the health sector so that the masses could be provided better health facilities across the province.
Sharif said energy shortage is the major problem of the country and the government had initiated several projects to curb energy crisis in the country.
Later, the chief minister also distributed medals and degrees among the successful students of the university.
Separately, new head of British Department for International Development (DFID) in Pakistan Joanna Reid met Sharif in which ongoing programmes in education, health and skill development sectors and recent visit of Sharif to London were discussed.
Joanna Reid congratulated Sharif on his successful visit to Britain and assured enhancing further partnership with the Punjab government. Speaking on the occasion, Sharif said that his recent visit to UK was the most successful visit of his political career. He said that due to this visit, relations between Pakistan and Britain have improved and further cooperation will be enhanced in various sectors between both the countries. He said that during this visit, meetings with British officials for the promotion of skill development and teachers’ training remained useful. He said Pakistan and Britain are strong partners in the journey of development and prosperity and collaboration between Punjab and DFID in various sectors is increasing.
The chief minister said that the policy of transparency and high quality is being observed in Punjab at every level and the Punjab government is utilising every penny by considering it as a trust. He welcomed new head of DFID on assuming here responsibilities in Pakistan. Talking on the occasion, DFID Head Joanna Reid said that Sharif is working excellently for the development of the province and under his leadership, marvelous work is being carried out in health, education and other sectors in Punjab. She said that the steps taken by Sharif for the uplift of education and health sectors are commendable and she is pleased to see the proper utilisation of British taxpayers money in Punjab.
