NAB board approves filing of reference against former BZU VC

The regional board of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Multan Friday approved to file a reference against 11 accused, including former vice chancellor Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Prof Dr Khawaja Alqama and registrar Malik Munir Hussain.
According to a release issued by NAB Multan spokesman Ahmad Mumtaz Bajwa, the NAB regional board recommendations finalised would be sent to NAB headquarters Islamabad for final approval that will pave the way for filing of reference against the accused in the NAB Court.
The regional board meeting, chaired by NAB Multan Director General Tariq Mahmood Nadeem took a detailed briefing from investigating officer Saeed Ahmad Sheikh on the case.
The press release said the sub-campus of BZU was established in Lahore in 2013 in violation of law and rules. Neither they sought BZU syndicate approval nor approval of Higher Education Commission (HEC) was sought for all the courses, he added.
The 11 accused included former VC BZU Prof Dr Khawaja Alqama, BZU former registrar Malik Munir Hussain, chairman BZU Lahore campus Munir Ahmad Bhatti and others.
The NAB spokesman said during investigations, there were revelations about irregularities worth Rs 1 billion. The former BZU VC and accused Hamza Munir Bhatti were in jail while former registrar BZU Malik Munir Hussain and chairman BZU Lahore campus Munir Ahmad Bhatti were availing bail before arrest.
The NAB Multan said the NAB had intensified efforts against elements utilising education as a source of fleecing people and all-out efforts would be made to ensure that no other person could play with future of our younger generation.
